Abyss Global was established in 2012 by Richard Nelson to help design, construction and property industry firms successfully grow their businesses globally.
As an award-winning management, business development and marketing specialist, Richard brings over 25 years’ international experience in the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) and property development and investment industries. He has worked at board level for some of the world’s largest and most successful architects and multi-disciplinary consultants, and he has also advised dozens of firms in the industry as both an independent consultant and previously as a founding member of a technology startup.
Richard graduated with honours from the University of Connecticut School of Business Administration, attended executive education at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, and was an inaugural Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM) of the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS), where he served on the New York Chapter Board of Directors.
Published articles on topics ranging from international business growth to e-marketing, and over a dozen seminars in the UK and US on a range of management, marketing and business development subjects for property and AEC firms, firmly establish Richard's expert credentials. He has also been quoted in industry publications on both sides of the Atlantic, such as the Architect's Journal, Building magazine, Property Week, Estates Gazette, Engineering News-Record and Architectural Record.
Memberships in SMPS, the Institute of Directors (IoD), the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and CoreNet Global allow Richard to maintain his skills and global contact network. He also regularly liaises with organisations such as the UK Department for International Trade, UK-ASEAN Business Council, British Expertise, International Financial Institutions (EIB, EBRD, World Bank, etc.) and a number of bilateral chambers of commerce. He is a past member of the British Council for Offices, British Council for Shopping Centres, Society for College & University Planning, American Marketing Association and American Institute of Architects.
