Abyss Global is proud to announce that its Founder & Managing Director, Richard Nelson, has been appointed as Property & Construction Ambassador for Breast Cancer Now, the UK's largest breast cancer charity.
Breast Cancer Now is working towards a future where, by 2050, everyone diagnosed with breast cancer will live and live well. In his new ambassadorial role, Richard will act as a bridge between the charity and leaders across the property and construction sector, driving awareness of breast health, supporting individuals and their families affected by breast cancer, and helping to forge long-term corporate partnerships that fund the cutting-edge research and care that Breast Cancer Now champions.
Richard's involvement with the charity is a deeply personal one. "Breast cancer has impacted me directly, affecting people who are extremely important to me," he said. "It makes everything in your world stop suddenly, and you feel completely helpless. Breast Cancer Now offers incredible support and resources – not only for those diagnosed, but for their loved ones too. I want to use my position and my network to make sure as many people as possible know that this support exists, and that they are not alone."
The scale of the issue makes Richard's role all the more vital. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, with a woman diagnosed every nine minutes and a man diagnosed every day. As Ambassador, Richard will work to ensure that professionals across the property and construction industry are equipped to promote breast health awareness in the workplace and know where to turn if they or a colleague are affected.
Throughout the year, Richard will be supporting Breast Cancer Now's key campaigns, including Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October), Wear It Pink, and Touch Look Check, encouraging businesses across the sector to get involved.
There are a number of practical ways that companies can take action right now:
Display awareness materials – Post infographics of the signs and symptoms in your offices, alongside Touch, Look, Check pocket guides, all of which are available from Breast Cancer Now in 19 languages.
Access Breast Smart – Gain exclusive access to Breast Cancer Now's new employer platform, designed to provide the tools needed to promote breast health and support colleagues in the workplace.
Share Breast Check Now – A quick, five-minute quiz that helps employees become breast health aware in moments.
Join the events – Get involved in Breast Cancer Now's events across the UK, including their flagship Wear It Pink campaign – a simple and fun way to engage your team and raise vital funds.
Breast Cancer Now also offers free public health talks, available in person or virtually, providing an excellent opportunity for organisations to explore how the charity's resources can benefit their people.
Richard added: "I would encourage every leader in our sector to take this seriously. Whether it's sharing a resource, hosting a talk, or simply starting a conversation, there is so much we can do together. I'm honoured to take on this role and look forward to working with our industry to make a real difference."
