Join Abyss Founder & MD, Richard Nelson, as he chairs this event on 13 May 2026 for the IoD Property and Built Environment Group at FOOTPRINT+, looking as the socio-economic impact and opportunities of Net Zero.
Far from the divisive issue that some political parties would have you think, the Circular Economy offers huge potential opportunities for jobs, innovation, economic growth and social impact, while reducing our impact on the climate and environment.
Beginning with the Institute of Directors (IoD) PBE’s Quarterly Economic Update, this industry meet-up will explore how the push towards net zero is reshaping the economy - creating opportunities across the value chain, not only for businesses, but for communities and society too.
The discussion will examine where cost, policy and investment intersect, and what’s needed to turn net zero ambition into long-term, demand led economic growth. From policy clarity and tax incentives to real investment decisions, the session will focus on how confidence and capital can be unlocked at scale.
As noted in a recent report by the Energy & Climate Intelligence Unit and the Confederation of British Industry, The Future is Green, the net zero economy is growing at more than three times the overall UK economy and is "now supporting almost a million livelihoods, with a disproportionate number of those jobs outside London and the South East".
What businesses and citizens need now is for the government to create the platform for long-term, demand-driven structural economic growth by baking in policy clarity, as well as financial and tax incentives, as noted in the recent 2025 UK Net Zero Business Census.
